There will be a Hollywood vs. Hollywood track and field meet for anyone to compete and challenge other students after school on Thursday.

This is the first time a Hollywood vs. Hollywood track and field invitational competition will be held. The event will be hosted by coach Rashan Briggs and the LACER program.

“This year’s track and field team decided that they weren’t finished,” said coach Briggs, “That’s why we decided to do a Hollywood vs. Hollywood track and field event.”

Anyone in the school can compete and challenge other students to many events like the sprints and middle-distance races, all the jumping events, and even shot put. There will also be grudge matches for anyone interested. Some of the more exciting grudge matches are Edis Aviles vs. Shamari Rose in the 400-meter dash and the 4 x 100-meter relay teams.

“I am excited to see my athletes show other athletes how to run events,” said coach Briggs. “I want the kids to enjoy it.”

Other schools plan to attend the track event including Robert F. Kennedy High School, Alexander Hamilton High School, Fairfax High School and even rivals Helen Bernstein High School.

The main goal of the friendly competition is to gather everyone from the school, especially the seniors, to “compete for the last time” and have a fun and action-packed day for the last day of the school year.

Entry and concessions will be free for anyone who competes or attends, so students are encouraged to give their best on Thursday after school on the field. It is a minimum day, so the school gets out at 1:15 p.m.
