At the vendor fair on Wednesday, students had the opportunity to try potential lunch menu items to next year’s school menu.

Ma Christina Butts is the area’s food services supervisor of the West Region. She has 25 schools and Hollywood High School is one of them. “My role is to make sure that I work closely with the cafeteria managers, that all of these become successful. It’s a month’s worth of preparation and coordination with the different schools,” said Butts.

For each menu item, students filled out a survey with a simple thumbs up or down.

“Whoever gets the highest marks will be included in the menu for the new school year,” Butts said.

The food tasting included about 40 vendors and a mascot dressed like a superhero sun. Students from health and PE classes were invited to taste test. Students seemed to like some items, returning for seconds, while others were not so popular.

The three schools present at the vendor fair were Hollywood High School, Bancroft Middle School, and Grant Elementary School. Alongside the vendor fair that took place on Wednesday, there was another one in the South area the following day.

Although there were rumors that superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho would be present, board member Nick Melvoin was sent in his place.
