CSU and UC applications due by Nov. 30

The deadlines for California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) applications are coming up; by Nov. 30 both applications should be submitted.

According to Alyssa Pinedo, more than 95% of the school’s students will be able to apply to four CSU and four UC schools for free. As fee waivers are embedded into the application, once students input their household income and size, it will decide whether or not to give the student a waiver. Students who don’t receive a fee waiver can talk to Kim Fabian, the College & Career Advisor, at the College Center in Room 413.

If students want to exceed the four school limit, they’ll have to pay $70 per school they choose.

In order to apply, students will need to meet a few requirements. To apply to CSUs, the minimum GPA the student must have is a 2.0 while UC’s minimum GPA requirement is a 3.0. Both require students to have passed their A-G courses.

Being a California resident, the requirements aren’t as high as out-of-state students. California residents even have an opportunity to receive the statewide guarantee— a guaranteed admission into a UC school for qualified California graduates. To determine one’s qualification, students can refer to UC’s Statewide Index. Students will not be able to choose a campus if they are qualified.

To apply for CSUs, go to https://www.calstate.edu/apply and scroll down until you see “Select a Term to Apply For.” For the class of 2022, select Fall 2022 and click apply. For UC applications, go to https://apply.universityofcalifornia.edu/ and create an account.

During account creation, it’s best to use a personal email account as LAUSD email accounts are deleted after graduation.

CSU applications are separated into four sections whereas UC applications are separated into seven sections. Cal States and UCs don’t require standardized test scores; both are test blind but if students decide to input scores, Cal States will use them after their admission to decide the student’s English and Math classes. Unlike regular college applications, Cal States have no supplemental essays while UC schools require students to answer four out of eight personal insight questions.

Since the universities associated with each are a part of the same system, you’ll only need to submit one application per institution.

  1. As a senior, this article has helped me simplify the process of both UCs & Cal States.

  2. I really appreciate this reminder. These days, it’s hard to keep track of everything going on.
