Libby by OverDrive is an app that allows you to log into your local library account and access e-books, audiobooks, and magazines, for free, similar to the classic OverDrive app. Libby has a new platform, that provides a fun and entertaining browsing experience. It was first released on June 20, 2017, at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago, after it had been in testing since 2016.

Libby can only be used with a library card or number. It is a completely free app that can be downloaded on almost any device. Steps are as simple as downloading the app, accessing your library card and your library, browsing the library’s collection, and borrowing a title.

This app requires an internet connection to read or listen to each download. Libby has the option of accessing more than one library at a time, borrowing up to five books at a time, and keeping a download on Libby from 7-21 days. You are able to hold up to 20 items at a time, and the app automatically returns each download, on its due date, for you.

“I personally use Libby for fun. I like to read fiction books, especially books based on Greek Mythology and Libby has a collection of different books from different authors and even comic books. I really love it and I do recommend it to other students. All you need is a library card to connect your Libby account with and you will have access to tons of books and audiobooks as well.” said PAM senior, Yessenia Perez Reyes.

Although Libby is not compatible with Kindle, you can use it on your phone, tablet, and computer in your web browser, at libbyapp.com. With the simple process of downloading books on your device, personalize your searches, and keep track of your reading history on the Activity tab. Take the opportunity to explore this app and website, visiting libbyapp.com.
