Welcoming back sports in December

With school resuming amid the Coronavirus pandemic, students are beginning to question whether or not this year’s sports are still happening. As it is only the second week of school and COVID-19 cases are still rising, it is too early to tell if sports will be back for the 2020-2021 school year.

But the California Interscholastic Federation also known as the CIF is optimistic and released a statement saying, “In conjunction with the State CIF and the 10 Sections in California, the 2020 Fall sports season has been delayed to December. Due to the current climate of the coronavirus and the recent spike in positive cases throughout California, it was decided in the best interests of our students-athletes,coaches, and member schools to adjust the 2020-2021 sports calendar.”

As for Hollywood High, administration is following the CIF’s as well as LAUSD’s instructions and updates word for word. The safety of students and coaches is their priority but they hope to welcome back all athletes as soon as December.

Students like Ingrid Muñiz, SAS Senior, are eager to start but also see the upside of starting sports during  December saying, “Right now I’m more focused on school work… I still workout to stay active…I actually think it’s going to be better to have sports in December…”.
