The Latino Student Union had an important meeting on Wednesday to discuss their upcoming Day of the Dead event during lunch.

In charge of the meeting was LSU’s board members Candy Gonzales and Elvia Almanza. They started off the meeting with a joke, “¿Cómo se siente un oso enojado? se sentía furiOSO” (How did the angry bear feel? Furious). It was a joke that brought joy to the beginning of the meeting.

“Day of the Dead is coming up and we will be making an altar for a person of your choice” said Candy. “Day of the Dead altars, also known as ofrendas (offerings), are constructed and adorned to remember, honor and please the dead,” said Elvia.

The only requirement that was placed was that the person had to be from Latino culture. It took a few minutes for the other members to come up with suggestions but then people started to raise their hand. There were suggestions such as singer Jenni Rivera and actor Chespirito.

At the end, the majority voted to dedicate the altar to Selena. This came to a surprise as there were other suggestions that seemed like the winners but the members seemed eager to pick Selena.

At the next meeting, they will gather the materials and build the Day of the Dead altar.
