Pollia Foundation accepts submissions for $17,500 in scholarships

The Muriel Pollia Foundation is now open to seniors who are interested in participating. Scholarships of $17,500 are up for grabs.

The Muriel Pollia Foundation Literary Award is a scholarship opportunity for seniors that submit an original written work in one of the following categories.

  • Fiction,  5-15 pages in length.
  • Graphic Literature, 10-15 pages in length.
  • Poetry, three separate poems.
  • Screenplay,  5-15 pages in length.
  • Journalism, two separate articles.
  • Nonfiction, 8-10 pages in length

To qualify, seniors must plan on attending a two or four-year university in the fall of 2024.

The amount of money alocaded is depended on the ranking of their writing pieces.

$2,500 are awarded to third place, $5,000 are awarded to second place, and the best prize of $10,000 is awarded to first place.

For those who aren’t aware of who the donor is, Muriel Pollia was a writer and philanthropist from Hollywood. Every year, scholarships and other donations are given to Hollywood High School specifically, in her name.

“She supported human rights, free speech and the creative art,” said SAS English teacher, Laurie Tobenkin.
