The endgame for seniors is here

Last Friday came out the senior fails list notifying seniors if they are currently eligible or not to graduate.

“ I’m more nervous about the final grading period than senior fails. Senior fails just means whether I’m gonna have a free summer or not,” said August Vignau, PAM senior .

Seniors everyday are closer and closer to graduating and with graduation comes the worry of eligibility. Seniors have a lot on their plates, starting with needing to meet the A-G requirements.

The A-G requirements start when you enter high school and end when you graduate. Each requirement will give you credits adding up to a total of 210 credits. Each subject requirement must be passed with a “D” or better.

The A-G requirements include:

  1. History/ Social Science
  • One year World History
  • One year U.S. History
  1. English
  • Four years
  1. Math
  • Three years
  1. Laboratory Science
  • Two years
  1. Language other than English
  • Two years
  1. Visual & Performing Arts
  • One year
  1. College Preparatory Elective
  • One year

Additional requirements not included in the A-G requirements include:

Principles of American Democracy

  • One semester

Economics

  • One semester

Physical Education

  • Two years

Health

  • One semester

Even further requirements include Service Learning, Career Pathway, and applying for financial aid.

“I’m pretty stressed, I think we should have gotten a better heads up for our final warning,” said  Naomi Pacheco NMA senior. “I didn’t even know it was senior fails until a teacher told me yesterday.”

Seniors are in a hurry to meet every requirement, have all their credits and prepare for senior events that come along the way.

“I’m scared about if I’m on someone’s list or not,” said George Trujillo, NMA senior.

The list isn’t something physical for all to see. The seniors who make it on one of their teachers’ fail lists will receive a message letting the student and parents know that they will not be graduating. Last Friday was the final day, for those who didn’t make the list congratulations.
