A defining aspect of our school is that we have students of various different races. Our largest population of race are Hispanics. The Hispanics in this school take up 69.7% of the population. The next biggest race are black people. The third-biggest race are the Armenians. There are also very few Asians, Russians and Ukrainians in the school.

As for me, I believe that being an Armenian in Hollywood High school is really fun because I have a really strong connection with the other Armenian students from the school. I also believe that everyone gets treated equally in this school no matter what race they are.

The Armenians in this school appear to be one giant friend group. There’s probably about 30 of them, and they all hang out in one group where the red tables are between the bungalows and the Arts building.

Everyone in this friend group has a strong bond with each other because they have gone to school together since elementary school. This friend group have known each other their whole lives because their families are close friends. Their parents came to Hollywood High school when they were teenagers so they sent their kids here too. The generations seem to be going on here at Hollywood High.

“I’ve grown up with these people because our parents are friends. It’s like we’re all cousins,” said TCA senior, Suzy Ordakyan.

We’ve had generations of Armenians sitting on these same tables for years. Every year, these tables have had new Armenians attend. This is because the lower classmen have older siblings or friends who sit on these tables. The upperclassmen graduate and the younger kids get older and invite their younger siblings and friends over to hang out with them.

“My brother is a junior and has been hanging out here since he was a freshman. I started sitting here on the first day of school and brought my freshman friends with me too,” said NMA freshman, Lily Oganesyan.
