Garden springing back to life

The school garden located by the cafeteria and library is now something to behold.

The garden has been anything but a garden for as long as students can remember. It has been full of dry dirt, trash, and broken sticks. Recently, the garden has started to show signs of plant life. If the garden continues to grow, it will make the school a lot more colorful and interesting.

“I’ve recently seen the garden, looks nice”, said NMA Senior Lizbeth Martinez

The person behind the magic of bringing the garden back to life is NMA science teacher Alycia Escobedo. She has been hard at work everyday watering it, and cleaning it. Even over spring break she attended to the garden to help it grow.

“It’s been about a month, it was an idea earlier that my honors bio came up with and I started doing it then but it didn’t work, but our administration asked me to start it for our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) visit coming.” said Escobedo.

With the garden bringing more color to the school students can’t simply go class to class in the area and ignore the garden. Currently what is planted are herbs, artichoke, strawberry, and more to come.

Escobedo is not the only one putting in work to the garden. Librarian Sherri Whitham and her student workers tend to the garden as well.

“I wish the school planted more flowers, the flowers look nice,” said NMA senior Louis Leybron.

With hard work comes progress and with the school having its very own strawberries planted and growing eventually some day the strawberries will be picked and eaten.
