Talks of the seal of biliteracy at LSU

Latino Student Union held a meeting about the seal of biliteracy and the future of the club.

As with many other meetings, it started off with a question. “How was your weekend and thoughts on only having 10 weeks of school left?” Candy Gonzalez, a LSU board member, said.

“My weekend was quite boring and only did homework and rest,” Luis Sandoval, SAS senior, said. “I am excited for school to be over with graduation being so close.”

Elvia Almanza, a LSU board member, went into what the meeting was about. “The seal of biliteracy is an award that you receive if you have taken a higher level of a language in addition to English,” said Elvia. To receive the seal, students would have needed to take a foreign language AP exam.

Elvia told members to talk to Ana Estangui, a Spanish teacher in room 231, about the seal and if you are eligible to receive it. Students who receive this seal will be acknowledged during graduation.

Due to a decrease in the member count, LSU will be participating in the upcoming club rush and encouraged its members to start inviting others. The club has been losing members since the start of the school year. With this recent meeting, only eight members were present.

If anyone is interested in joining LSU, then they should follow their Instagram page and sign up on Friday during the club rush. LSU usually meets every other Tuesday during lunch.
