Library Service is a very limited course due to only a few people being allowed to take it each period. You can take this course in order to be an active part of the school library. In order to be able to take library service, you need to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, along with being a senior in any SLC.

It is a year long course you can take, and it was a very popular class to take since not many students can take it as well as students are able to enjoy the peacefulness of the library.

“I had an idea of what I was expected to do as a library worker but it wasn’t until the weeks went by that I got the big picture of what a library worker is required to do. The class goes beyond just reshelving books, checking books in and out, and keeping the library tidy,” said Yvonne Contreras, PAM senior.

Students enrolled in the course will need to learn how to navigate the library, recognize the locations of each genre in the library, and they’ll need to know how to help students with things like printing their paperwork. As well as receiving other assignments from the librarians.

“I did forget some things but Ms. Whitham definitely made the class very easy to understand. Some things we mainly do is organize events that deal with the library/books or decorate the library itself. We help students check out books or even help them search our library catalog for an easier time finding their desired books.” said Destiny Garibay, SAS senior.

The students taking the class have recently had to create their own Flipgrids on reading banned books, which segmented into the scavenger hunt held during lunch on Mar. 10 for Reading Across America. Monthly activities are usually held in the library, and all the students who take library service have to contribute and help.

“I chose to read a quote from Lord of the Flies since to me the book has several themes to project on our functioning society,” said Garibay. Check out the library’s website: https://sites.google.com/view/hhslibrary
