DC Comic fans finally received their much anticipated director’s cut of the 2017 film, “Justice League: The Snyder Cut” on March 18.

In 2017 we received our first ever look at the popular comic book story “The Justice League” as a live action film. Director Zack Snyder was set to direct a collection of the DC films with a darker tone, however Snyder abandoned the project because of the recent passing of his daughter. Due to anticipation regarding the movie, the company Warner Bros. decided to select a new director, Joss Whedon. Unlike Snyder’s Justice League, Whedon’s 2017 film was not well received due to the dissatisfying storyline, CGI, and character arcs.

During 2019, fans heard rumors about a project, named “Justice League”. To the surprise of many, it was the original director Snyder who was fueling rumors of his return. It wasn’t until last year that Snyder officially announced his directors cut on the story “Justice League”.

During most of 2020, fans were unaware of what direction it was going in. It wasn’t until October 2020 that Snyder revealed to fans that he was looking to ‘undo’ what Joss Whedon did. This new film was to be 4 hours long with an improved storyline and CGI, as well as never before seen scenes. To the fans’ surprise, the movie was set to release March 18, 2021 on HBO Max.

Then came the day, the 4 hour film was released, and boy, was it worth the wait. The movie was well received, most fans saying it was a giant improvement to its 2017 counterpart. The film was well composed with eight acts. Now with its extended run time, there was enough time to create a story arc for each member of the League. Additionally, the CGI had major improvements, especially to the design of the Villain.

The same actors who played the 2017 movie did return to bring to life a much improved storyline. Ben Affleck returned as Batman with a more serious and intelligent role in the story. Jason Momoa returned to play his role as the comedic yet extremely awesome Aquaman. Gal Gadot returned to her famous and powerful role as The Wonder Woman. Henry Cavil as the resurrected Superman, and we even got the returning actors like Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Ezra Miller as the Flash.

Fans also got to see more of the Flash and Cyborg unlike the previous film that had them just randomly popping in. Cyborg’s character in this film finally had his backstory explained, from how he became cyborg to how he decided to take the role as a hero. The movie even introduced its next big-time villain, Darkseid, which to comic book fans, was both shocking and exciting.

Overall, the movie is a great experience. So If you have HBO Max and are interested in finding a way to spend some time, “Justice League: Snyder Cut”, is now available to watch, and I highly recommend it.
