Los Angeles Public Health has released the new data that would allow student athletes to get back to the field. LA County’s cases have dramatically dropped in the past week to 12.3 positive COVID cases per 100,000. This is 1.7 less cases than the maximum that the California Department of Health wants counties to have before opening up fields.

The CIF: LA City Section has yet to release a statement on this but here is what we can expect to hear. They have already released guidelines for each sport and they can be found at 2020-2021 Guidelines and Modifications for all CIF Sports. Permission from LA County Health Department must be given for the CIF: LA City Section to move forward with sports. LAUSD and individual school administrations have the last say in whether or not their school/s will be participating in the CIF season in what is left of the school year.

Sports have been divided into 4 tiers by the California Department of Health. LA County is currently in the purple tier. The only sports that are to be played in the purple tier are outside low contact sports like cross country, swimming, and track & field. For LA County to enter the red tier the case rate must be 7 or less than 7 cases per 100,000 people.
