Joe Biden made history by becoming the 46th president of the United States on Jan 20, 2021. After his inauguration ceremony and speech, Biden did not hesitate to alter a lot of Trump’s previous work. His key priorities on what he wanted for the nation was to help with Covid-19 cases, immigration, climate change, the economy, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

Help Decreasing Covid-19 Cases:

With Biden’s attempt to decrease the number of Covid-19 cases, he decided to enforce a stricter law on mandatory masks and social distancing in federal buildings and property. Since he can’t just force cities to do what he wants, he made a “100 days mask challenge” where everyone on federal property has to wear a mask for 100 days. With Biden, things are going to be a little different because he doesn’t have Trump’s relaxed perspective of Covid-19.

PAM student, Genesis Saldana, 15, stated, “I like how he made a stricter law on wearing mandatory masks so people actually need to wear their masks when going out in public. I also think that he should make a legal law for those people who don’t wear masks to get a fine or warning.”

Immigration:

Before sitting in office, Biden promised the country he would reverse Trump’s immigration laws. As first day as president, Biden submitted a determined immigration reform bill to Congress, which would establish an eight-year path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. This bill would allow some deported immigrants to reunite with their families.

Climate Change:

In order to help with climate change, Biden signed a letter to re-enter the Paris climate records of the United States, which he would formally rejoin within 30 days. Two years ago, Trump told the United Nations that the United States will withdraw from the alliance of almost 200 countries seeking to step away from planet-warming fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Economy:

Biden is working on the extension of a federal eviction moratorium. He asked agencies to prolong a moratorium on federally insured mortgage foreclosures, which was imposed in response to the pandemic. Biden is also seeking to extend a delay until the end of September on federal student loan interest and principal payments.

LGBTQ+ rights:

On the night Joe Biden sat in office, he signed an executive order that would expand the LGBTQ+ community’s current federal nondiscrimination rights.
