As soon as finals week is over binging movies and television shows is all we will be doing. It seems like Hollywood is surviving this pandemic better than anyone. This month we have seen releases like HBO’s “Euphoria” Christmas special and announcement of releases like Warner Bros.’s “In The Heights”. Here’s a Hollywood rundown of what to expect and look forward to for the year of 2021 and beyond.

Warner Bros. has announced the release of multiple movies whose releases in theatres were held back because of Covid. Among these releases are “In The Heights” directed by Jon M. Chu, well known also for the award winning movie “Crazy Rich Asians”. “In the Heights” is based on the New York City melting Pot that is Washington Heights. We will also be seeing Emmy winner Zendaya and Timothee Chamalet in “Dune”, “The Matrix 4”, and “Space Jam: A New Legacy”. If you are looking forward to these and many more make sure to subscribe to HBO Max which has lowered its price to $12.

Although Disney Plus has decided to hike up their price but to compensate they have announced that they will be adding various new Star Wars and Marvel series. The seventh and eighth episode of the most awaited series, “The Mandalorian”, will also be released this month. Fans of “Moana” and “The Princess and the Frog” received the news that there will be a spinoff series for both movies and that they will premiere as early as 2023. After a year fans of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” will be getting a second series.

What has left teary eyes and fans reflecting is “Euphoria’s Christmas Special Part 1: Rue” was released Dec. 6. Although the filming of the second season was paused due to fears of COVID-19 contractions they were able to film the Christmas Special. Part 1 of this special is dedicated to a conversation between Ali and Rue about addiction and modern world issues. It may not have been what fans expected but it’s one of the most real and heartbreaking episodes of the show. Make sure to subscribe to HBO Max to also watch “Euphoria Part 2: Jules” on Jan. 24.

Netflix is not staying behind with new releases. This past month alone we saw the release of “Selena: The Series” and “Dash and Lily”. On the last day of this rollercoaster ride that has been 2020 we will be getting the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 4”. Although tears have been shed because we won’t be seeing Taylor Lautner as Sharkboy we should be excited that our childhood favorite, “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl”, will be getting a sequel set to be released on the first day of 2021. Finally we will be getting one of the first movies made during the pandemic, “Malcolm and Marie”, will be premiering Feb. 5. The movie directed, written and produced by Sam Levinson will be starring Zendaya as Marie and John David Washington. Couples may think they know each other but being stuck together will reveal the opposite.

Hollywood may have taken a break and theaters may still be closed but the year to come will be the next chapter of the film industry. 2021 might be the best year for both viewers and streaming services like HBO MAX, Netflix, and Disney Plus.
