Seniors the Free Application for Federal Student Aid has opened as of October 1st. Applying for FAFSA decides if you are going to receive grants, be offered loans, and work study positions. FAFSA is first come first serve and will be open until resources run out. You are eligible if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen including refugees, Cuban Hatian Entrant, Conditional Entrant, have a T- visa, parolee, or if you were granted asylum.

Here is a checklist of what you will need to fill out FAFSA:

-FSA ID

-to create an FSA ID  you will need:

-Your Social Security Number

-Your Email and/or Mobile phone number

-Your Full name and date of birth.

-Your parent’s 2019 income tax return forms.

-Your social security number.

-Your parent’s date of birth.

-Date of marriage, separation, divorce, of parents.

If applicable:

– Your 2019 income tax return forms.

-Your parent’s Social Security Number.

-If your parent has an SSN then they also need an FSA ID(only one parent signature is  needed).

-Your driver’s license.

Tips for Students with Undocumented Parents:

-Even if your parents are undocumented you are still eligible to sign up for FAFSA.

-Your parent’s ITIN number is not the same as the SSN so do not type in your parent’s ITIN when asked for their social security number.

-When they ask for your parent’s Social Security Number type on 000-00-000.

-Usually when you type in 000-00-000 for your parent’s Social Security Number it will give you a screen saying “Error”. There really is no error just click the “Error” button at the bottom until it turns into a “Next” button.

Biggest Mistakes students commit when it comes to FAFSA:

-Not applying thinking they will not receive help.

-Waiting until the last minute to fill out their FAFSA.

-Not checking for mistakes on the form.

-Not applying because they have undocumented parents.
