Justin Timberlake’s Halftime Show Garners Mixed Reviews

Justin Timberlake's Halftime Show Garners Mixed Reviews

Aniello Angrisano

Chronicle Reporter

While it may have been the underdog Philadelphia Eagles 41-33 win over the New England Patriots that had the top headline from the Super Bowl the halftime show is also garnering a great deal of notice. Justin Timberblake’s third halftime performance didn’t cause as much controversy as his last performance in 2004 but it is getting a lot of mixed views.

JT performance mixed elements of his new music while also showcasing the classics that made him famous. Opening up with his song “Filthy” from his new album Man of the Woods Timberlake then came out to the Minneapolis field to perform “Rock Your Body”, “Cry Me A River”, “SexyBack”, “Señorita”, and “Mirrors”.

After the pop singer jammed out to “Suit & Tie” in a visually appealing showing of lights and also by bringing out the University of Minnesota’s marching band to help him perform the song.

Next came the most notable moment of the show which was a tribute to Minneapolis’ own and legend, Prince. Timberlake performed alongside Prince, featured on a giant projector, classic songs like “I Would Die For You” and “Until the End of Time” while the surrounding stadium and downtown Minneapolis was lit up purple for the singer. Timberlake would then end the show with his song “Can’t Stop the Feeling” walking into the stands and taking an infamous selfie with a kid who seemed very confused about what was going on.

While many people were divided with JT’s concert during halftime there we some problems with the show. At the start of the show Timberblake’s mic wasn’t working properly starting it off on the wrong foot. But for many people the performance lacked that typical magic and engaging material for the viewers that many past performers brought to the show. It also seemed like the show was underwhelming and many were disappointed that Timberlake didn’t bring anyone out to costar in the performance like an *NSYNC reunion or Janet Jackson.

Although it was the Prince tribute that had the most controversy of the night. Many Prince fans were displeased with the performance going back to a feud Prince and JT had over a decade ago, and also saying that it wasn’t a proper showing of the late legend by having JT perform along him.

Despite this there were many fans of the performance. “Two words. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. Wow that was unreal. LEGEND,” said Nick Jonas via Twitter. While R&B icon Diana Ross also shared her appreciation of the show saying that she really enjoyed it on Twitter.

“I felt that it was very astonishing and a good combination of happiness and that it was also great that he did play a tribute to Prince during the show,” said senior Jesus Reyes.

However criticized or praised this show may have been it will be interesting to see who the NFL picks for next year’s halftime show in Atlanta.

Timberlake performed some classics, including "Cry Me A River," and "Mirrors," along with newer songs like "Can't Stop The Feeling" and "Filthy," which is off his newly released "Man of the Woods" album.

After eating pizza they also have appetizing desserts like cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, gelato, and much more.

Along with food Delicious Pizza Cafe also collaborates with Delicious Vinyl for some hip hop memorabilia for many fans. Explore BODY WORLDS: Pulse at the California Science Center

Aniello Angrisano

Crimson Chronicle Reporter

Opening up on this Saturday May 20 the unusual Body Works: Pulse exhibit is going to be at the California Science Center. This exhibit explores how the human body is negatively affected by different diseases and obesity and how a healthy and active lifestyle affects the human body positively.

The weirdest, most unique, and intriguing part of this exhibit is that it uses real human tissues, muscles, and organs using a process known as plastination. Plastination was created by Dr. Gunther von Hagens, who founded the exhibit, which is the process of extracting all bodily fluids and fats and replacing them with certain plastics that are able to preserve the body according to the California Science Center. Now before people are freaked out by this display it is supposed to showcase and promote a healthy lifestyle and provide a closer look into the human body.

This exhibit will feature over 200 plastinated artifacts including whole bodies, body structures, and whole organs and tissues. These are split up into different displays of human functions like the locomotive, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and reproductive systems. Some of the items featured are an obese body slice, a smoker’s black lung, and hardened arteries that show the effects of bad health.

There is plenty of time to check out the exhibit as it will be there until February 20, 2018. Tickets to the exhibit cost  $19.95 for adults and $16.95 for students ages 13-17 with school I.D.

Gabriel Garduno
Crimson Chronicle Reporter

Cinco de Mayo is coming, Lucha VaVOOM continues to amaze strong and oddly well done mixture of violence, sex appeal and hilarity just how it should be celebrated. The biggest Mexican party of them all, aside from Día de los Muertos and the many of many quinceañeras that happen near you. Lucha VaVOOM’s Cinco de Mayan goes to honor this sacred day with the usual combo of wrestling, burlesque and comedy, to prove who is the most macho of them all, but who is more macho Rey Escorpion or Laredo Kid? Or perhaps the great Rey Horus? Other Mexican features will be an electro-punker Silverio,, authentic Aztec dancing and, naturally, plenty of the best alcohol, Tequila

Besides the Cinco de Mayan Lucha, there are Cinco de Mayan- Sexy festival and Cinco de Mayan- Spectacular

After a century running and years of speculation JROTC, or the junior reserved officer training corps, is coming to an end beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. In an official letter send out today by Principal Alejandra Sanchez it was announced that the program would come to an end.

“It is with great sadness that I am informing you that the JROTC program at Hollywood High School will not continue starting in the 2017-18 school year due to lack of funding. After three years of discussing the school funding issues with the JROTC Leadership, including Col. McDonald and providing them with with an official and timely notice last school year, we are now proceeding with this heartbreak decision” Ms. Sanchez said. “As stated above, I am extremely saddened by this decision and will immensely miss our wonderful cadets and instructors who have contributed so much to our school life and activities” Ms. Sanchez stated.

Obviously the move was an outrage to many and they supported JROTC at lunch on Wednesday April 7. It was at this meeting that Ms. Sanchez broke out the news to cadets that they were canceling the program, it was these cadets that they broke the news out to their supporters at the meeting that inform them the program ended. “I feel depressed. The program has been in Hollywood High School for a 100 years. It creates family, relationships, and friendships. It also teaches leadership skills which are great later in life,” said Jason Kim, 11th grader whose been in the program all three years and is a former officer, “I personally don’t want JROTC to shut down, JROTC has influenced so much in not only in my life but also the students of Hollywood High.”

As JROTC ends Ms. Sanchez will implement a new competitve A-G course but not will have to be seen. As for the heartbreaking news Ms. Sanchez said there was no possible way to fund the JROTC program in the coming years. Only time will tell towards Ms. Sanchez controversial decision.

Breaking up with a partner is always hard but The Museum of Broken Relationships embraces unique artifacts left behind by former couples. Founded by John B. Quinn in 2016 the museum was brought over from Zagreb, Croatia to the city of dreams. Located just a block away from Hollywood and Highland this museum displays over 115 items that are supposed to take viewers on a deep emotional journey. While some of the exhibits may be sad many are humorous and entertaining and show how these people recuperated from their break-ups. Each object was personally donated from a contributor and each object tells an uncommon story. Anyone also has the chance to contribute to the museum by sending in their own object with the story of that item.

Tickets to the museum cost $18 for general admission but for students it is $15. The museum is open all week but hours differentiate on Thursdays, Fridays, and the weekend. Not only does the museum offer exhibits but it also has numerous events. One event coming up on Sunday March 12 is a Break It/ Make It where people can take out their emotions by smashing anything they want and then they can create something with the broken pieces. The museum also has a gift shop for people wanting to buy merchandise. So for an interesting and unique journey people should definitely check this museum out.
