Hollywood High School along with the rest of schools in California will be conducting the annual earthquake drill. The drill is known as the Great Shakeout, and it takes place every year on October. The Great Shakeout of 2017 will be taking place tomorrow Oct. 19 during second period.

The whole school will be participating and everybody will be in their designated areas, according to their second period class, on the field. Each class will be shortened to 49 minutes, and when the drill is announced over the PA System along with a long ring of the bell, all classes should respond to the simulated earthquake by assuming the drop, cover and hold position. Nobody should move for about ten seconds and further instructions will be said through the speaker.

It is that time of the year again, so be prepared to wait for about an hour on the field. When told to evacuate the building in an orderly manner, all classes are required to be on the field. The drill will start at approximately 9:59 a.m. and end at 10:41 a.m. Remember it will be pretty sunny outside and the weather will be warm so bring a hat and water. After the drill, students will be dismissed to nutrition.

Make sure to stay in your designated area with your class because teachers are required to take roll and report the names of missing students. “Preparation will be the greatest assistance in the event of an emergency,” said Assistant Principal Henry Lazo in the letter of procedures that was sent out to teachers.
