Words of wisdom from the college-bound senior class

An audible sigh of relief can be heard from the hundreds of seniors on campus, as the final admission decision letters are mailed and seniors set their sights on the schools they’ll attend in the fall.

The beginning of April marks the end of the college decision process and the beginning of the college committing process, a light at the end of the tunnel for many anxious Hollywood High seniors.

SAS senior, Morgan Martin, admitted to USC and UCLA is glad the process is over.

“I feel like the hard work I put into my applications paid off. It’s just really relaxing to know that it’s all done and over with,” she said.

Marlon Straker, SAS senior, heading to Cal Poly Pomona in the fall is also relieved to be done with the process.

“I put so much hard work into my four years of school, and it finally paid off,” he said.

Having successfully survived the gauntlet that is the college admission process, these seniors decided to impart vital information to underclassmen, who are sure to endure the same challenges next school year. Much of the advice was cautionary.

“Start early, don’t wait until the last minute, definitely try to chip away at writing a little bit of your personal statement and filling out a little bit more of your application, ” Morgan, a future kinesiology major, said. “Don’t try to do it all in one sitting, because it’s just really horrible to try and do it last minute. Don’t procrastinate.”

Marlon, planning to study political science as a Bronco next fall, had similar advice for upcoming seniors.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help, like Ms. Brown really helped me throughout my application process. She made it much easier for me. I did it with her,” he said.

  2. So proud to see my boy Marlon gong to college, I hope you go far this should be an inspiration to everyone at our school. Guess Morgan did good too….

  3. Mrs. Brown is a valuable resource for our entire student body, especially our juniors and seniors. Students should contact her early in their college decision process to obtain scholarship information and advice about choice of universities and their emphasis on career majors.
