Hip-pop, pop, and rock rank as the top genres most listened to

Music is widely played for various reasons such as: religious and ceremonial, cultural, and for leisure activities. Especially, in today’s modern world, music can be played instantly just by tapping on a play icon on a smartphone or any mobile device. In order to see what music genre was listened to the most in school, a survey was conducted of 100 students, teachers and staff.

The Crimson Chronicle surveyed 80 students from four different grade levels and 20 teachers and staff, it showed that hip-pop ranked number 1 out of the 12 categories in the survey. The least listened to genre was classical and country.

Of the 12 genres listed below, 11 of the genres were provided by npr.org and “other” category was added separately.

  • Pop
  • Jazz
  • Classical
  • Hip-hop
  • R&B/ Soul
  • Folk/ Country
  • Latin
  • World
  • Electronic/ Dance
  • Indie
  • Other

 

In the chart below the top major genres most listened to was hip-hop, pop, rock, and indie. The least listened to genre was folk/country, classics, and other.
