Students and parents get their groove on in Zumba class

The Parent Health Council is a group that meets every other Thursday for two hours who have recently decided to participate in a Zumba exercise class. The first hour, 8:30 to 9:30, is a meeting and the second hour, 9:30 to 10:30, they exercise by walking around the neighborhood. When the Parent Health Council decided their bi-monthly walk wasn’t enough and wanted to do more, they turned to Zumba, a dance fitness program set to fast Latin music.

The sponsors are primarily the Wellness Center with the help of Ms. Ryan Woodson.

The general audience for zumba are parents who want to exercise and be healthy. As of now only parents attend, due to the timing, Florentino Jauregui   said “… [Parent Health Council] wants to extend it to include faculty and staff members.”

“I think its fantastic that the school is trying to go healthy,” said Principal Alejandra Sanchez.

With 12 regular parents attending every meeting and a few more at times, there are no requirements, except to sign up. All parents are invited to join. As long as parents are involved in the council, the zumba classes will continue.
